With an emphasis on fun, younger artists will learn the basics of drawing and painting while trying out a variety of mediums - colored pencil, acrylics, watercolor, collage and printmaking. We will also explore working in 3-D. Lesson plans are the jumping-off point as each student is encouraged to follow her/his own creative voice.

Beginning Wheel Throwing

This class encourages children to create works in clay from their imagination using basic tools and handbuilding - pinch, coil and slab. Hand-building for Youth

Students will learn various hand-building techniques to create functional ware. Using slab and coil techniques, students will create decorative and functional mugs, bowls, and boxes. Along with hand-building, students will learn basic clay facts and different glazing techniques.

This 6-week course will help students improve their drawing skills and build their portfolios. Class exercises will include sketching and rendering based on direct observation. Drawing techniques to be explored are graphite, silverpoint and ink.

Anime Painting and Drawing

This class will take you from a basic line drawing to painting with acrylics on a gessoed board. Students will work in the popular anime style of drawing to create a finished painting.

Comics, Cartooning & Graphic Novels

This class offers students an opportunity to explore various drawing and illustration techniques related to the genre of comics, cartooning and graphic novels. Instruction includes perspective techniques, writing for comic strips/graphic novels, and using proper sketching to create a finished cartoon panel. Also covered in class are different types of cartooning styles and panel creation and arrangement.

This class is designed to help students improve their drawing skills and introduce them to a variety of drawing media. Students will learn traditional drawing methods and develop their own unique style. A wide range of still life forms - organic objects, casts, skeleton, etc. - will allow students to work from direct observation. Class lessons will include: how to create line and tone, understanding value through light and shadow, and interaction of color.

Teen Painting and Drawing on Paper

This class teaches ink drawing and watercolor painting. Students will work two weeks with ink, three weeks with watercolor and the final week with the medium of their choice. Class lessons will develop skills working from direct observation. Some quick sketching will be done in ink; other classes will develop longer poses. This is a good opportunity for students to build their portfolios.

The Art of Japanese Bookbinding: Creating a Journal

You'll get to take home all the artwork, a brush, no-spill paint cup, one color of tempera paint, a pack of paper, and a resource packet with guidelines for continuing the activity at home.
