Learn the way of the brush creating fluid, vibrant and suggestive strokes, which invoke the power of nature. This is a very spontaneous and expressive artform which can be experienced from the very start. A combination of both traditional and contemporary subjects such as bamboo, orchid, pine tree, iris, etc. will be introduced. This class is open to all levels with advanced students pursuing independent studies. Demonstrations as well as one-on-one instruction will be ongoing. Students who already have materials that may be of use should bring them. All other students may purchase materials from the instructor for $40. This method is characterized by deep, transparent, warm shadows and strong light. Students will begin with a sketch of neutral shadows and learn how to apply textured brushstrokes to the most lighted areas. Those with intermediate drawing experience will benefit most.
