Encaustic Painting

Materials fee payable to the instructor: $20.00 for an assortment of beeswax and encaustic mediums.

    All students please bring the following:
  • An electric heating plate with a flat surface to place pans of wax. Make sure the plate has a dial temperature setting and Teflon coating.
  • One heat gun (available at Ace Hardware or Home Depot)
  • A basic set of Encaustics & Oil Sticks in basic colors (available to order from R&F paints)
  • Small Masonite panels and a watercolor pad (at least 140 lbs.)
  • Clean tin cans, ten or more (like tuna, soup, or small juice cans)
  • Natural bristle brushes (the small 1" cheap brushes at Home Depot are good!)
  • Several palette knives and other tools such as: scrapers, knives, ceramic tools, pencils, and pliers.
  • Collage materials, string, cloth or other materials for embedding in the wax.
  • Optional - a bagged lunch from home!
