Skin City: the Art of the Tattoo

The art world has seen a recent trend towards "art of the street" -- graffiti, hip hop, cartoons, etc., gracing the walls of prestigious museums and galleries all over the world. This exhibition follows that trajectory, attempting to document the synthesis of tattoo art into a thriving art form, noting the influence of tattoo art among contemporary artists and shedding light into the art of working tattoo artists.

Artists include D. Dominick Lombardi, New York City-based curator, whose series of India-ink Post-Apocalyptic tattoos have been exhibited in galleries across the country. Nick Bubash, a Pittsburgh-based artist who has been tattooing professionally since 1972, presents his recent paintings and assemblages, which look like 3-dimensional tattoos. Also featured is Don Ed Hardy, known as "the godfather of modern tattoo" for his sophistication, depth and sense of experimentation. Other artists include renowned tattoo artist Thom deVita, Susan Moore, Susan Jamison, John Wyatt and Steed Taylor. This exhibition will be an interactive, educational experience for people of all ages and backgrounds.
