Creighton Michael: Intersection

a piece by creighton michael

Creighton Michael's meticulous sculptures, paintings, and drawings intricately explore the power of singular and collective mark making. Process driven, meticulous, and labor intensive, this series of works also reflects the unruly world of nature and individuality, a continuum of ideas, manifested as moving through time.

The Daily and the Divine

Nzingah Muhammad stages eloquent portraits of African-American Muslim women in their homes, employing stark photo-realistic settings and traditional dress juxtaposed against contemporary imagery. Curated by Catherine Thompson of Esso Gallery, NY.

Keba Konte works in dualities -- found objects burnished with gold leaf; the ordinary imbued with the accoutrements of the divine. This juxtaposition reflects the nature of his latest works, images from a funeral procession honoring New Orleans' Big Chief "Tootie" Allison, popular community activist and tribal chief of the Mardi Gras Black Indians. This documentary of a culture perhaps washed away indefinitely profoundly incorporates the emotional detritus of post-Katrina New Orleans Konte found while retracing the route in November.
