Past Exhbitions -- May 2002Places in the Heart
Four artists visually portray their homelands and significant places that reflect their individual heritage. Luis Vega, born in Cuba and now residing in Miami, paints the lush landscapes of a tropical paradise. Gustavo Acosta, also Cuban-born and living in Miami, is a draftsman and painter who recreates the exteriors of buildings with his "geometric memory." Andrea Carreno, now working in Chile and Italy, renders the interiors of homes typical of her native Chile. Angel Hurtado of Venezuela paints the craggy surfaces of his native land. El Cinco de Mayo
Painter Dodie O'Keefe joins with sculptors Felipe Packard and Ricardo de la Vega to celebrate this special day in Mexican culture. O'Keefe's acrylic paintings are inspired by the brillian colors and primitive images of Mexican and American Indian folklore. De la Vega, a native of Mexico, and Packard, educated in Mexico, collaborate on three-dimensional works in cast paper and mixed media. The Daily to the Divine: Alekxey Sabido
Sabido's paintings take the viewer to an alternative world full of abstract and fantastic realities. Born and raised in Mexico, now a resident of Miami Beach, he combines the surreal with ancestral and religious representations. Colors of the Sun: Ludner Confident
Dr. Confident's allegorical paintings use Caribbean imagery and vivid color schemes characteristic of artists from Haiti. Symbols and metaphor communicate a theme and message, haunting the viewer's consciousness. |
