Out of the Elements: Annual Members' Exhibition
Over 250 member artists have created artworks in all media celebrating
natural elements. Anything goes at this year's annual Members' Exhibition
as long as it depicts or contains earth, water, air or fire; plant or
animal.
Monica Naugle: Woven
Identities
curated by Dr. Valerie Ann Leeds
Monica Naugle, whose work appears in permanent collections in Florida
and Germany, was born in Columbia and now lives and works in Plant City,
Florida. After studying in Colombia and Czechoslovakia, she began creating
highly textured, abstract textiles using a 60-inch countermarch loom.
Recently, she started using the loom to weave metal grids which become
the three-dimensional skeleton for sculptures that may contain leather,
vines, cable and other natural elements. This is her first exhibition
at The Arts Center.
Creative Alternatives
The Youth Arts Corps & St. Andrews Orthodox Church School
The Youth Arts Corps, a partnership with the Pinellas County Arts Council,
provides a caring, creative environment utilizing youth involvement
in the arts. In their fourth exhibition at The Arts Center, student
works include paintings, drawings, photography, printmaking, quilts,
and clay sculpture including teapots and platters.
At St. Andrews Russian Orthodox Church and School in south St. Petersburg,
young Russians, ages 6 to 18, study under the careful eye and instruction
of well-known Russian artist and Arts Center member Gasanaga Agayev.
