Cat Thompson

is a Tampa native and multi-media artist. She recently received her Master of Fine Arts from the University of South Florida with a concentration in sculpture and digital printmaking. Thompson has participated in a large number of shows including the Tampa Museum of Art's, Art of Recycling (awarded 1st place in the college division), All Florida Juried Sculpture Show (awarded best of show), Art in Service of Politics at Gallery 145, Art for Life, sHOTEL(L), and He said She said. Her work is included the collections of the University of South Florida Graphic Studio, the Southern Graphics Council and private collections throughout the world.

As the art director and owner of Gallery on Florida, Thompson also helped organize the multi-gallery Avant Hop and collaborated with HPFA in co-curating the Valentine Peepshow, which took place at both galleries. She is co-creator of the newest nonsensical holiday, World Tiara Day. Her current work as an artist focuses on what she calls "the underbelly of memory and nostalgia" mixed with Baudrillardian concepts of conscious and unconscious consumption. Utilizing familiar objects and images, she explores the sometimes disturbing history of culture, war, family, and identity. In describing her work, Thompson's favorite words are intertexuality, unsicherheit (intellectual hesitation), allegorical figuration, and anti-semiotic. She aspires to inclusion in "Great Curmudgeons of the World".
