Family Day and Word & Image Exhibitions/Awards Ceremonies

Where: The Arts Center, 719 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg, FL 33701

Since 1998, the Arts Center has worked with Pinellas County schools to create Word & Image: Arts in Education Partnership. The Center hosts four of these juried exhibits each year that coincide with their professional gallery exhibitions, including work from students at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

Each year, students are challenged to create a work of art based on a particular theme, and to incorporate a written statement within the piece. Past years' themes include "Let Freedom Ring," "Celebrations," "Superheroes," and "Celebrating Harmony."

This year's theme is "Class Menagerie", an exhibition based on either fictional or family pets. Word & Image is sponsored in part by the Hough Family Foundation. The Arts Center's Family Days are designed to raise awareness of the Arts Center's educational programming for children, provide children with the opportunity to engage in the creative process and to encourage a life-long appreciation for the arts in a fun-filled, family-friendly atmosphere.
