The Arts Center along with Mayor Baker Announces a Major Step Forward for City of St. Petersburg and The Arts Center(Media invited to attend and cover) St. Petersburg, Florida (October 11, 2006) The media is invited to join Mayor Rick Baker; Evelyn Craft, Executive Director of The Arts Center; Marshall Rousseau, Director of the Chihuly Collection; Arts Patron and Developer Jimmy Aviram; Philanthropist Beth Ann Morean; Arts Center Board Chairman Dick Jacobs and Chairman-elect, Terry Brett; and neighborhood leaders, Thursday, as the Mayor announces a major step forward for the city and The Arts Center. They also will update the community on the current status of the Arts Center's expansion and relocation plans. A brief press conference detailing the announcement will be held on October 12, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Arts Center, 719 Central Avenue. A year ago the Arts Center announced a major expansion to a new 133,000 square foot facility, one block west of its current location, in conjunction with The Arts, a condominium project located east of the new Arts Center Building. The development is a mixed use residential and retail block with a focus on the arts. It encompasses a condominium tower with retail space, and will be anchored by the new Arts Center Facility, along with The Chihuly Collection, a major installation of the work of renowned glass artist, Dale Chihuly, the only of its kind in the World.
