Behind Glass: Creativity and Collaboration

St. Petersburg, Florida (December 13, 2006) -- Behind Glass: Creativity and Collaboration opens Friday January 12, 2007 , located at 719 Central Avenue in St. Petersburg. The Exhibition runs until March 11, 2007. The exhibits are as follows:

Behind Glass: Creativity and Collaboration

Curated by Margery Aronson (Hough, Synovus, Everett & Stanley Galleries)

A comprehensive glass exhibition featuring contemporary glass works by Seattle-area artists, including those from the famous Pilchuk Glass School. The show will serve as a vehicle to educate our community about these artists, including Dale Chihuly, Dante and Paul Marioni, William Morris, Martin Blank, Lino Tagliapietra Cappy Thompson, Preston Singletary, Jenny Pohlman, Sabrina Knowles, Ginny Ruffner, and Benjamin Moore. Accompanying the work will be photographs of the artists in the creating process, taken by Russell Johnson, who has documented many working artists over the past few decades for the Pilchuck School. The exhibit will be curated by Seattle art advisor Margery Aronson. Currently she is curator for The Pilchuck Glass Collection in downtown Seattle.


Just Like Me: Word & Image Exhibition

Work by Pinellas County high school students is displayed in this exhibit. The theme of the show -- "Just Like Me" – challenges students to create a self-portrait and explain in writing what makes them unique. The theme of this exhibition is based on the book Just Like Me: Stories and Self-Portraits by 14 Artists, edited by Harriet Rohmer.

Sam Abell: The Life Behind Things

One of the world's most highly respected photographers and public speakers, Sam Abell has worked as staff photographer for National Geographic since 1993. His varied topics include Leo Tolstoy, Lewis Carroll, the Mississippi River, the Civil War, the Lewis and Clark Expedition, and Japan's Imperial Palace. The photographs on exhibition are part of a larger show entitled A Photographic Life, from the collection of the University of Virginia Art Museum in Charlottesville. He also will be teaching a Master Artist workshop at the Arts Center, February 5 - 9, 2007.
